NIH Entrepreneurship Bootcamp Registration is Open
The NIH Entrepreneurship Bootcamp is designed to equip life science investigators and nascent companies with specialized innovation and entrepreneurship training. The course requires no prior experience and uses a life science-focused customer discovery process to assess customer and stakeholder needs, and teaches participants to develop stronger business models, market strategies, and commercialization plans in advance of their initial SBIR/STTR application.
The Bootcamp places teams on a path to take advantage of other NIH innovation programs, particularly the I-Corps and SBIR programs. Critically, this course will improve the commercialization potential of a project no matter what direction teams ultimately pursue.
The submission period is Monday, July 15, through Friday, August 16

Workshop Overview:
The NIST-led Rapid Microbial Testing Methods (RMTM) Consortium launched in 2020 to develop standards and measurement-based solutions to advance the use of RMTMs in advanced therapy products. NIST is hosting the 4th annual workshop on RMTMs to update the community on RMTM Consortium efforts and to work on Consortium deliverables. Over the course of two days, independent working sessions (1 h to 2 h in length) will be hosted, with Day 1 open to the public and Day 2 for Consortium members only. This open, virtual workshop is free of charge. All interested parties are invited to Day 1, including advanced therapy producers, RMTM assay/instrument developers, and cell reference material producers. New members are being accepted into the Consortium.

2024 MPWRM Resource Center Retreat
The MPWRM Resource Center’s 6th Annual Stakeholder’s Summit was held on April 8-9, 2024, in Ann Arbor, MI, attended by more than 40 participants in-person, with more online. In addition to the presentations by the Interdisciplinary Translational Project (ITP) teams, new this year was the ITP Pitching Hour, where each ITP team gave a 5 minute pitch presentation.
The event also included a panel session on “Regenerative Therapies in the Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Space: Opportunities, Challenges, and Trends”, a conversation with 5 panelists on the topic of driving innovations in the dental/ oral/ craniofacial space and critical issues to consider.

C. William Hall Scholarship Deadline
The scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior undergraduate pursuing a bachelor’s degree in bioengineering or a related discipline. A completed application with all required documents must be submitted by December 3, 2021 to be considered for the 2022 Scholarship. The Education and Professional Development Committee will review the applications and announce the recipient by January 14, 2022.

Timothy Cote MD MPH is the newly-arrived Entrepreneur-in-residence at the Forsyth Institute, based in Cambridge MA. He will be hosting a monthly en vivo cum en silico seminar series to discuss topics in orphan drug development with an emphasis on regulatory affairs in the US and Europe. With more than 15 years of experience in the field, Dr. Cote was previously the Director of FDA’s Office of Orphan Products Development. In that capacity he personally signed 1,400 orphan drug designation decisions and saw 140 orphan drugs go to full marketing authorization.
